Although one of the newest Colleges offered by the New Era University, the College of Communication has already come a long way through out the University’s service, existing only as a course many years ago before it operated as the independent College we now know. neu.edu.ph The New Era University’s Mass Communication course originally came about as a department under the College of Arts and Sciences when the University passed the Level II Accreditation as cited by the PACUCOA or Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation only after 4 years after the dedication of the University, according to the CAS’ (College of Arts and Sciences) record of history. The Mass Communication Department was accredited together with the other departments namely, Language, Social Sciences, Math and Sciences, Biology, and Psychology. https://youtu.be/VBzSLktsqjY Mass Comm memories by Shyne from 2010 The Mass Communication department was officially establ...

Sa Mass Comm, Mass-saya!

“Is that why you chose Communication as your course?” the school guidance councilor queried. It took me about 3 long  seconds before I answered, “No , Ma’am. It  wasn’t.” The Psychological test was a requirement each student must accomplish and pass before they can apply for their on-the-job trainings. As I was interviewed by the councilor, she tells me that there are some things she needs to discuss with me regarding my test results. Turns out that I have social introversion. I wasn’t really surprised, that’s why it didn’t take me much in explaining the roots of it. The good thing was proactively mentioning my ongoing resolution to the problem. I proceeded telling her that I’ve been exposing myself more to things that I normally wouldn’t dare do but secretly dream to, socializing more, risking more, expressing more, until unknowingly, I’ve already gone out of my comfort zone. To be honest, while I was explaining these things, that’s only when it hit me. The realizatio...

K to 12 for Globally Competent Pinoys

K to 12 for Globally Competent Pinoys By Janella de Leon The first batch of graduates of the Senior High school under the K to 12 program held their commencement exercises this year. This was finally only after its implementation 2 years ago. The K to 12 program requires 13 years of education which is from Kindergarten to Grade 12, hence the name ‘K to 12.’ Thankfully, the Philippine Government approved the new educational system to be effective nationwide. It’s only appropriate because it has been in fact overdue. Although we accept that our country belongs to the third world countries all over the world, it’s shocking to know that the Philippines is the LAST country in Asia and one of the only three countries worldwide along with Angola and Djibouti who still follow the 10-year pre-university program. It’s about time that we keep up with the standard and the quality of education the rest of the world has. The K to 12 program aims to provide specific specialized tracks to t...

Privilege and Influence

Privilege and Influence by Janella Khrystle S. de Leon "What’s one thing you’d wish every Filipino would have the privilege to receive for free?" Just one of the few random thoughts that crossed my mind on the breakfast table one morning. The television was tuned to the teleradyo channel as usual, and I try to digest the national issues being discussed. After giving it much thought, I think most people - if not all - would agree with my answer. No, it’s not food. Why? Because although food is your main source to stay alive, it requires work to be harvested and Man is obliged to work for it. If we were to do simple Math, in order to attain food, we’d need to know the root of the problem to solve it. Work and employment is one of the country’s problems as well due to qualifications and demands. Some professions require skill sets from a course and a degree. And that my friends is what we need - Education. The question earlier was not limited to anything, yet I think...
